Biography
Todd has had a long-standing interest in the creative arts. After years of independent study and earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University, Todd began his make-up career with “The Silence of the Lambs”, as a member of the special make-up team.
Todd’s approach to design begins with the narrative. “I see myself as a storyteller. Each department on a project makes its contribution; engaging the audience and establishing the reality of that story." His make-up work ranges from simple and lovely looks for Greta Gerwig in the 2010 remake of “Arthur” to the progression of complex prosthetics required for Will Smith’s characters allergic reaction in “Hitch”. He believes that make-up should not call attention to itself; “I never want the audience to see the make-up. Whether it’s subtle beauty or big effects, the make-up shouldn’t get in the way”. Todd is consistently mindful of the collaborative process; “Our job is to bring that director’s and actor’s vision to the screen."
His recent projects as Make-up Department Head include “Arthur” and “Man on a Ledge”, and as Key Make-up Artist on Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan." Other notable Department Head credits include “Doubt” and “The Taking of Pelham 123."
