Biography
SUSAN VAILL recently made her network television directing debut with an episode of ABC's award-winning drama GREY'S ANATOMY: “If Only You Were Lonely,” which aired in February 2012. After 8 seasons as a film editor on Grey's Anatomy, Susan has edited over 50 episodes of the series. She also directed SEATTLE GRACE: ON CALL, a Grey's Anatomy web series which received over 8 million views.
She recently completed the 2010-2012 prestigious ABC Disney Director Shadowing Program, shadowing directors on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, PRIVATE PRACTICE, BLUE MOUNTAIN STATE, and Grey's Anatomy. Susan is currently producing and directing My Evil Twin, a comedic feature documentary in production about twins, inspired by a childhood appearance in a Doublemint Gum commercial. Susan is a recurring director for Acorn Pictures’ annual LIVEworks festival of theatrical one-acts, and studied with the All Original Playwrights Workshop
Susan has also edited the pilot of ABCFamily’s HUGE as well as Lifetime’s ARMY WIVES and MTV’s PARENTAL CONTROL.
She earned an MFA in film production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, and her short film comedy Valette screened at over 25 film festivals, receiving awards for Best Student Short at the 2003 Malibu Film Festival and the Sedona International Film Festival.
And long before she ever helped develop Grey's Anatomy's signature use of music, Susan grew up as a child in Los Angeles, loving bands like the Go-Gos, the Police and the Stray Cats.
