Biography
Chris Clark has styled hair for film, television, and theater for nearly twenty years. His most recent work includes ABC's period drama Pan Am, for which he created the stars' distinctive 1960s looks; the film Country Strong, which followed an overly ambitious country music starlet's career; and Margin Call, for which he styled portrayals of high-powered executives during the 2008 financial collapse.
As a freshman at Arizona State University, Chris found his calling in a most unexpected place: the theater department's wig room. Instantly, Chris saw the potential to communicate depth and richness through the styling and manipulation of an actor's hair. "The most important thing for me is to tell interesting stories. Knowing the characters—thinking about them as real people at a real moment in history—leads to honest design decisions that can enhance performances and the work as a whole." His attention to each character's details and dossier has made Chris a sought-after stylists in the industry.
After completing his undergraduate work in theater design, Chris moved from his native Arizona to New York, and began a ten-year stint as a Broadway wig-master for productions including smash hits The Lion King and Wicked. This experience has led Chris on the path he follows today.
Chris Clark lives in New York City and is a journeyman of IATSE Local 798.
